SENATE
The composition of the Senate of Timtally University is as follows:
i. Vice-Chancellor Chairman
ii. Deputy Vice-Chancellors Members
iii. All Professors Members
iv. University Librarian Member
v. Deans, Directors and Deputy Deans Members
vi. Heads of academic departments Members
vii. Four members of academic staff elected by the Congregation as Members
viii. One member of academic staff representing each of the colleges as Member
ix. Registrar - Secretary
Functions of the Senate
The Senate is the highest University authority on academic matters. It is the general function of the Senate to organize and control the teaching at the University and the admission and discipline of students and to promote research and academic excellence.
Specific functions of the Senate include:
i. establishment, organization and control of the Colleges and Departments of the University, and the allocation to all Departments responsibilities for different branches of learning;
ii. Organization and control of courses of study and examinations at the University;
iii. the award of degrees and such other qualifications as may be prescribed in connection with examinations held as mentioned above;
iii. making recommendations to the Governing Council with respect to the award to any person for the title of professor emeritus;
iv. consideration of persons for the award of honorary fellowship or honorary degree;
v. the selection of candidates for admission as students at the University;
vi. the supervision of the welfare of students and the regulation of their conduct;
vii. the grant of fellowships, scholarships, prizes and similar awards within the control of the University based on the recommendation of the Committee of Deans; and
viii. Determination of what descriptions of dress shall be academic dress for the purposes of the University and regulating the use of academic dress.
Committees of the Senate
The committees of the Senate are responsible to assisting the Senate in discharging its responsibilities; the Senate of the University consists of the following committees:
i. Committee of Deans
ii. Central Admission Committee
iii. Examination Misconduct/disciplinary Committee
iv. Examination Monitoring Committee
v. Senate Business Committee
vi. Welfare/entertainment committee
