Postgraduate School

POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL

The Postgraduate School will coordinate all postgraduate programs in the University. While postgraduate programs are actually resident in the various Colleges and Departments that offer these programs, the School provides the administrative oversight and services to postgraduate students. The Postgraduate School shall be headed by a Dean, with a Deputy-Dean and a full-time Secretary. The Schools has a Board headed by the Dean with the deans of all Colleges (or their representatives) as members.

Remedial Studies Unit

REMEDIAL STUDIES UNIT

The Remedial Studies Unit is set up to coordinate both the Arts and the Science Remedial Programme run by the University. The Unit is headed by Director, who is charged with the responsibility of coordinating all activities relating to Remedial General Studies Programme.

General Studies and center for Entrepreneur and skill acquisition

GENERAL STUDIES AND CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEUR AND SKILL ACQUISITION

The General Studies Unit is a veritable instrument for inculcating the spirit of self-reliance in students. The major objectives of the Unit are:
i.    Fostering the development of communication skills among students;
ii.   Helping students to acquire the basic skills required for existence in a modern society; and
iii.   Coordinating the entrepreneurial education projects of the University.

Colleges And Departments

COLLEGES AND DEPARTMENTS

The University operates the collegiate system. A Dean is the head of a College, which is made up of related Departments. Each College has its Management Committee, referred to as "Standing Committee", comprising of the Dean as Chairman, Deputy Dean, Professors, Associate Professors/Readers and Heads of Department. A College also has its Board of Studies made up of the Dean (as Chairman), all academic staff of the College and a representative from each of the other colleges and the Library. The Dean oversees the Heads of Departments, while the Senate scrutinizes the academic activities such as curriculum development/modification and examination.
However, the University will establish a College of Health Sciences that will be made up of four Faculties. The College will be headed by a Provost, while a Dean will head a Faculty.
A department is the basic administrative unit of the University and a Professor is the head or an acting head is appointed where there is no professor to head or administers it. Academic programs are domiciled in academic departments, which ensure that students are taught and examined in accordance with the approved curricula.
